I think I can……go keto?

After much consideration we’ve gone all in. The fella and I embarked on the keto lifestyle just under 2 weeks ago. This means no grains, no sugar, limited carbs and lots of fat. I’ll be sharing this BIG adventure a lot in the coming months as it’s  already made a huge impact on our lives! Stay tuned for more in depth information, recipes and weight loss news. Between the 2 of us…..in under 2 weeks…..we’ve lost 34 lbs!

Lots of Adventures…… (and more snow than I care to acknowledge)

My hanging planter after one (of many) snowstorms

I love snow…a little at a time…..

There’s nothing in nature that can make everything more peaceful and beautiful than a fresh blanket of pure white snow.  This winter, however, has made me use more profane adjectives when talking about snow than I ever imagined.

I live in the part of the country that has been inundated this winter with snowstorm after snowstorm.

Up to my knees (and we still got more)

We’re at the point now that well over a hundred buildings have fallen down in surrounding communities and the  snow is all dirty and disgusting to look at.  It’s starting to melt and the flood concerns are ramping up.  Animals are looking for food and places to sleep

A little minor flooding
Antelope that were blocking the road

Now……the forecast is…..more snow.  For the love of all things sunny and 75° make it stop! Please send us warm and happy thoughts.  We really need to start getting the garden goodies prepped. I’m glad I decided on a lot of container planting this year!  I don’t expect to see a full thaw until…….July? (That’s a joke,  I hope)

Coming soon….I take my life on a low carb/keto adventure (and I have perks for my friends! )

I’ll stop procrastinating…..next weekend

It never fails that I put EVERYTHING off until Sunday (I’ve had 4 days off in a row) and then wake up feeling like poop Sunday morning. I’m going to continue telling myself it’s just a coincidence that I have multiple symptoms at once because I really don’t have time to be sick. The mom chores never go away and I have to go back to work tomorrow.  Oh lord give me strength (and a suddenly super mega immune system).

One more cup of coffee should help,  right?!

I have got to stop procrastinating so much!  (That’s a battle for another day)

Tonight’s Adventure: OMG! I GREW THAT!!!

It finally happened!!! We had a salad that was all fresh picked from our crazy little garden!

I don’t even remember what types of lettuce we had….regular ol’ leaf lettuce, butter crunch and something with spots. We picked a little spinach and chopped off some celery as well.

I don’t know if it was the freshness of something picked just moments before you eat it or the satisfaction of knowing we grew this ourselves but this was one dang great salad! I can’t wait until we have some tomatoes and carrots to toss in too!

We’ve been on some great exploring adventures lately and I’ll get those all posted soon! This weekend we’re going to an expo all about gold panning so I’m sure I’ll have all sorts of fun things to share  after that! We’re hoping to see some of the Gold Rush guys!

Gardening: The rewarding & frustrating adventure!

Yep, I totally rock the crocs in the garden!

I haven’t had the ability to grow a garden since I was a kid. Sure, I tried the trendy patio garden a few times but my old apartment was so shaded all I was doing was creating a sprout crop for the birds and a few acrobatic squirrels.

Fast forward to this year.  We went CRAZY with the seed supply. We started everything early in our little indoor greenhouse and they were growing like nobody’s business. Then we got a little overzealous and started trying to garden them. We lost quite a few but many did last and quite a few have come back.

We're totally going to play Hee-Haw when these babies are full grown!

We’re sure learning a lot (which I’ll be sharing as I get my blog posts scheduled regularly). I now understand why organic goodies are so pricey! It’s kind of a pain in the rear end! Needless to say….yeah
…we’re not organic!

What’s your latest adventure? Have any garden advice? I’d love to hear from you!

Our most recent (and ucky) adventure: walking pneumonia

Today is the first day our little guy was fully functional at school again. After a few weeks of being sick off and on (with what we thought were various ailments) we took him to the Dr to find out he had walking pneumonia. That was two weeks ago. He was out of school for a week and completely miserable. Last week there was a little residual tummy upset but now…..F I N A L L Y……I think he’s nearly 100% better! Woohoo!

Now, with a fairly healthy kid I never even considered that he could have walking pneumonia. I thought it was weird that he was catching every single cold that was going around though. Once we talked to the Dr I  realized that all of those colds were most likely ALL part of his pneumonia. He’d get a little better but still have a weakened immune system and run himself back down again.

I also learned that (at least in the Western states) the season for pneumonia is lasting alot longer and people are catching it later than usual.

One of the things people don’t realize is that walking pneumonia is HIGHLY contagious! It’s spread through prolonged exposure to an infected person. So most likely our kiddo caught at school and quite possibly spread it to others as well.

Live and learn….but next time I sure won’t wait as long to take him to the Dr!

Have you managed to skate past the cold/flu/pneumonia season?

Breaking radio silence…..

Holy moly…..the ol’ cootie train has made our house a frequent stop in the past few weeks (months) and I’ve gotten SO behind! I’ve got partial blog posts written, the garden half planted and my house half clean. I feel like I’m up to my ears in “almost done”! This week the blog is a priority! I still have son many things to share from our recent adventures!

Bear with me and my craziness! I’ve got some cool box reveals coming up as well….and I’ll be consistently adding to the blog (sick or not)!

Have a great Monday friends!

Not your typical St Patrick’s day!

Tonight I’m proud to say our dear sonny boy passed his Hunter Safety course with flying colors!  Our adventure over the last year has taken us a long way and we’ve all gone through alot of changes.

Tonight we’re ALL still fighting the cooties but I’m hoping we’ll be a little more healthy this weekend so I can get caught up!

Have a fantastic night and a safe St Patrick’s Day!
